Admission Requirements for Undergraduate Degree Courses in Ireland

Ireland has always been known for colleges and universities offering undergraduate courses. It is always an important thing to remember that the method of applying to an Irish higher education institution depends upon whether the applicant is an EU student or a non-EU student.  The status is determined by the application of the applicant and cannot be changed after the first year registration.

A candidate applying in Ireland to pursue a course must clearly mention in their form about their EU and Non-EU status. The candidates can use the Central Applications Office (CAO) to apply for all undergraduate courses. Every applicant is provided with a handbook and the application pack, that has the list of all the subjects that are offered by the universities and colleges and also contains important information on the application process. Entry Requirements

Ireland offers various undergraduate courses, the entry requirement for which may vary depending upon the year the candidate is applying. The entry requirement also depends upon the total applicants and the total seats that are available, hence the candidates have to compete for the admission. The applicants compete for admission into their favourite subject, based on their results in Irish Leaving Certificate Examination. The best of six subject scores are taken into consideration during admission to various undergraduate courses.

The International Bacculaureate (IB) Diploma is  accepted for entry into higher education in Ireland. All institutions must meet the need of faculty and Programme requirements. The applications of the candidates are individually assessed and the Diploma only won't guarantee an admission. Some institutions also stipulate some additional requirements other than the minimum requirement.

Requirements of English Language

An excellent understanding of English is a must requirement for every student whose English is not the first language. All need to converse, write and understand English properly since it is considered as the major language for instruction at all higher education institutions in Ireland.

Its a must for students to show excellency in the English language to get themselves admitted for undergraduate degree programme. But, the good news is that many Irish colleges and universities also offer language training in English to applicants who wish to pursue their studies with them. Ireland has a nationwide 94 language schools in English, which runs long as well as short-term courses for English.

Admission Requirements for Medicine Courses in Ireland

Students applying for medicine courses in Ireland, needs to sit for HPAT test. The test is for all EU students who wish to apply for medicine undergraduate courses in all institutes offering medical courses in Ireland. The candidate's Leaving Certificate points also adds his/her HPAT score which makes a total score. This will make the students compete for medicine undergraduate courses, and for that they have to score a point of minimum 480 and also has to meet the Medical School's matriculation requirements.

Non-EU applicants who wish to apply to medical courses must get in contact with the International Office in the college.
